(11,767 posts)Trump does not seem to have any of that. His "reality" is very distorted. He may feel slights when people criticize him, but he does not internalize the information. Everything to Trump is external. His "enemies" (which would include former allies) are the ones responsible for everything bad.
When I get criticized by one person, I can shrug it off and say that "it is them" based on who and what the criticism is. If a bunch of people are criticizing me, then I need to ask myself, "Did I do something here?" The answer may still be "NO" but I look inward at least for a bit.
Trump never goes there. He can't. His actual sense of self is so fragile that he can't even think about whether he may have made a mistake or not. He has been taught to see that as a strength, but is is a sign of how weak your "ego strength" (to take a Freudian term) is. If Trump was actually confident, he could stand to laugh at himself and admit when he made mistakes.
Comparing him and President Obama. President Obama could and often did laugh at himself because President Obama knew that he held real, personal value to himself and others. Even if he made mistakes, he knew he was "okay". Trump is not able to laugh at himself or acknowledge anything that he thinks is a "weakness" which makes him look like an even bigger failure.
Trump will keep running from reality and will think that everything bad that happened to him, did so because of "others". History will not be kind to Trump.
