(6,908 posts)I am thoroughly exasperated by the seemingly endless posts on DU that ask, "What if a defeated Trump refuses to leave the White House?".
Fer cryin' out loud, so what if he does? Occupying that building does not make someone the President. The Constitution does not declare that the President is, "whosoever's butt is in the chair behind the big desk in the Oval Office."
Suppose I manage to get myself included in some VIP tour of the White House, and when we come to the Oval Office, I plunk my own ass down in that chair and refuse to get up. Will that give me the full powers of the presidency until someone pulls me out of the chair?
People have to get real about this. I personally believe that Trump will do absolutely anything, no matter how criminal and treasonous, to hold on to power. But "refusing to leave the White House" will not do the trick for him.
