14. A friend of mine,

and her little brother, tried out for them. The two of them were not exactly as pure as the driven snow. They were actors, though, and could play the part. I think they were accepted as subs.

I got sick of her and her family rather quickly and found other friends. A few years later, my mother read me a newspaper article about the two of them. The brother had died at his sister's house, of a drug overdose.

I can never think of this group without remembering those two phonies. It gives me a chill to this day.
