2. Just about the only thing I can think of that could temper Roberts' right wing tendencies

And THAT would be loud, unjustified, polemic criticism from other right-wingers who are less intelligent, less eloquent, and have greater need to pander to some local right wing base to keep their jobs than a Supreme Court Justice appointed for life.
