It was banned in Turkey, Argentina, and Mexico, and is still banned in Singapore and the Philippines. It caused protests in Albuquerque, a firebombing of a crowded theater in Paris, and Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell made millions from the outrage they propagated over it. Martin Scorsese and Willem DaFoe received death threats over it.

So... there's that.
