it was made by a devout Roman Catholic, and its ultimate message is how much Jesus had to deny himself to accomplish his mission. Beyond sacrificing his life for us, he gave up the opportunity to know love, to have children, to have any kind of normalcy in his life... and the movie ultimately glorifies that sacrifice, as it should.
