Gaetz has never married.

In June 2020, following an argument with fellow congressman Cedric Richmond, Gaetz revealed that he lives with a 19-year-old Cuban male, Néstor Galbán, who is a legal U.S. immigrant, since Galbán was age 12.

Gaetz has not legally adopted Galbán. Gaetz and Galbán's living arrangements had not been public knowledge or disclosed in Gaetz’ official biography until the revelation in June 2020.

Though they share no consanguinity (blood relation) nor any legal affinity, Gaetz has stated that he considers Galbán's relationship to him as that of a "son".
