Methanol in a consumer product is a third rail in those industries.
Here's how I know:
The most commonly used alcohol in consumer goods was SDA 3A. It is ethanol, denatured with methanol to make it undrinkable. (Financial benefit is no liquor tax)
A typical formula would be 5-6% of an ingredient that had 14% alcohol. So 5% of 14%, or 7,000ppm. The methanol content would 5% of that! So, 350ppm. The entire industry switched to SDA 40B, which is still denatured, but zero methanol.
350ppm methanol in a consumer product was considered WAY too much.
These products are 70-80% methanol!
No US manufacturer would touch this formula.
