6. Some restaurants have a dress code.

Some 40 or so years ago my sister and I were turned away from Sunday brunch at a restaurant in Los Angeles. Her ten year old son was with us, and he was wearing shorts, sneakers, and a shirt. Not good enough, said the restaurant. But he's ten years old! we protested. Too bad they said.

Oh, and we were (still are, actually) all white.
