They are not going to try to create a horse race. They want to see Trump lose on a grand scale. That will be good for their show's ratings over the next several months.

Television ratings are not a long-range methodology. They reflect very short terms. Like quarterly stock reports, ratings are snapshots of the moment.

After the election, TV executives will worry about their shows' ratings at the time. They aren't worried about January's number right now.
