Is Romney a Good Businessman? [View all]

Putting aside the nature of Romney's business dealings, is Romney actually a good businessman? He doesn't seem to be very good at managing his campaign. I'm having difficulty seeing the extraordinary businessman he is said to be.

A good (or even decent) CEO needs to be able to actually, you know, run the company. The CEO isn't involved in every single detail of the operation. Instead, he has a team of managers who run the business and take care of those details. Romney didn't need to run any companies; he bought them, extracted every penny of value, and then left the carcass behind. Those aren't the types of traits or experience needed to run a successful company.

Maybe most striking is the seemingly absence of demand for Mitt Romney as a businessman. Once someone gets into the C-suite level of corporate America, they are rarely unemployed. Even complete failures end up on their feet at another company. For someone who we are told was so successful at running a financial firm (Bain Capital) and turnaround of a failing organization (Salt Lake City Olympics), companies should be practically breaking down Romney's door to get him on board to lead their company, right? Instead, he spends the next 10 years running for political offices and does not go back to the business world.

Pretty much all of the Romney campaign has been based on lines and distortions. But he isn't running on the credentials of being a successful governor; he is running on the credentials of being a successful businessman.

Is the Romney campaign's real Big Lie that Mitt Romney just isn't a good businessman?
