(27,631 posts)...and can't force him to withdraw from the race once he's nominated, as we learned four years ago. All they're saying is that, if he doesn't get his polls up, "he's on his own." In other words, downballot Republicans will concentrate on getting themselves elected, and will publicly disassociate from him if that will help their effort.
Sound familiar? That's exactly what Republicans said on October 9, 2016, after the "pussy-grabbing" tape leaked and it looked like Trump was a sure loser. Of course, within a few weeks, they came crawling back, and once he was elected they denied ever having doubted him.
It's just the usual spineless Republicanism, just amped up a bit: wrap yourself around Trump when he's doing well in the polls, then pronounce yourself "concerned" and "troubled" when he's not. It's all the usual Elephant Manure.
