...tax payers are funding it. And in my view, they shouldn't.

Let it become a private park and museum. Just like the ultra conservative religions build Noah's Ark replica's, theme parks, etc. If it works out, good for them.

If it doesn't, then they can create a preservation fund, that slowly removes the images and put then reassemble them in some large abandoned hanger or warehouse. And charge admission as a private museum.

Tax payers shouldn't be funding a monument to people who tried not just keep slavery, but expand it. What people forget, the North was trying to contain slavery into just the southern states....they wanted to expand it all the way to the west coast.
