86. A couple of months after I first started cashiering

January 2009 I think, an old right-winger came through my line and started going on about Obama and socialism and blah blah blah. I just nodded, corrected him on a couple of points and tried to speed him to the end of the transaction. Then he opens his wallet and pulls out an EBT (food stamp) card. We both look at it.

*crickets*

He then blusters "Well I guess I'll just pay with my commie card then!"

I do give him credit though, though he clearly was in need of the card, the next few times he came through my line he paid with dollars, loose change, and bottle return slips instead of the card. He at least could see the hypocracy of railing against a program he was partaking in.

The really sad thing is he didn't seem to realise that he really was entitled to it, he had contributed into the system his entire working life.
