I use a drive-up drop-off box that's minutes from my house. It's working very well for us here in Colorado.

I checked the rules in VA; I can eliminate 2 of the 3 mail trips it would otherwise take.

My county, in California, installed secure drop-off boxes at every City Hall in the county....
