1970s. He was a cop and thought that most gun owners that he saw were really too stupid and clueless about gun safety to own one so he appreciated the training and safety aspect of the group. Then, in the 1990s, they started getting really political and that's when dad got disgusted. In true dad fashion, he demanded they cancel his lifetime membership--by taking one of their postage-paid cards, taping it to a brick, and dropping it off at the post office.

Dad was a staunch Democrat.

I really miss my dad.
