Voters didn't know what he would do as president, now we know. Many people gave him the benefit of the doubt, that doubt no longer exists.

I think sane people knew he would be a bad president, but I must say that as bad as I thought he would be, he turned out much, much worse. In that respect, he did exceed my expectations. I suppose I, like so many, thought there would be experienced people around him, who would curb his excesses and that our institutions would somehow contain him. Who could have foreseen so-called patriotic republicans in congress giving him a free pass at every turn? Having lived through Watergate, I am incredulous that so few stood up to his monster.
