10. Act Blue takes about 4% for themselves

3.95% to be exact (according to them, though this was a while ago), and that doesn't even touch on what the credit card companies take out for themselves. I don't know if that constitutes a "difference."

So, out of every $1 million raised through them, they retain $40,000. I've never been involved in the financing of an election campaign, but I've had candidates tell me that to them, if they need to raise $5 million for their campaign, losing out on $200,000 would hurt greatly. I ALWAYS send checks after a bad experience with Act Blue, though I understand that many have had no problem with them.
