Kevin Van Ausdal was likely to lose anyway, but now there's no one to counter the looney tunes at all.

The real surprise is that he isn't just dropping out, he's leaving the state entirely.

In a statement, Kevin Van Ausdal attributed his decision to withdraw from the race to “family and personal reasons,” but did not elaborate on what had prompted him to end his campaign. [snip]

"The next steps in my life are taking me away from Georgia, so I will be disqualified from serving in Congress and will give the Party a chance to put forward a candidate that can carry this fight to the end.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that local activists were putting together a list of potential replacement candidates that included defense lawyer Bobby Lee Cook, a model for the long-running Andy Griffith series television series “Matlock.”

Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs, however, said the window had already closed on the time for Democrats to replace Van Ausdal.


Dems needed 60 days to replace him. He dropped out too late.
