(15,281 posts)This isn't so much a question of dragging Trump from the White House after he has clearly lost.
It's a matter of being prepared to stop Trump and his criminal organization from delegitimizing the election. Do not doubt for one minute they will pull out every dirty trick in the book, with the full support of the rightwing media and internet propaganda network.
Winning the narrative in the battle of public perception is very important, and how well we prepare for this battle might affect the extent to which Republicans in Congress stick their necks out for this dictator wannabe in a Constitutional crisis.
Trying to keep him in office in defiance of election results will likely be a losing effort, but there is more at stake. A prolonged and bitter fight will exacerbate even further the bitter polarization of the American people at a time when healing is essential, and potentially damage the efforts of the Biden administration to enact much needed change.
There is next to zero chance of changing the minds of die-hard MAGAts, but governing -- like elections -- are usually won by influencing the middle.
We are almost certainly headed for a real shit storm with a prolonged count of mail-in ballots and the aftermath of the winner being declared. If our Democratic leaders fail to have rigorous discussions to develop a strategy and narrative for what happens after the Con loses, it would be sheer negligence on their part.
