Anybody remember how well it worked out for Gerald Ford?

He replaced the convicted fraudster and Nixon VP Spiro Agnew, who resigned in disgrace. Then when Nixon resigned, Ford became president. And a month or so later, he pardons Nixon

Then he tried to run for a legitimate term of his own. Remember, he was appointed VP. Was never on the Nixon ticket.

He ran in 1976 and was beaten by Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter. And that was IT. Out to the golf course and umpteen different bigtime boards of directors. Too many voters said "he pardoned Nixon" that November. That's what sank him.

I wonder if Pence is aware of this? He can show genuine and legitimate love of country and Constitution and do the right thing, AND live to mount a future campaign or two. Or he can pardon trump and become a second Gerry Ford.
