(3,907 posts)(I am assuming you are referring to the statement by Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Join Chiefs of Staff)
Gen. Milley said:
In the event of a dispute over some aspect of the elections, by law U.S. courts and the U.S. Congress are required to resolve any disputes, not the U.S. military. I foresee no role for the U.S armed forces in this process.
While it was widely publicized as the military saying that they wouldn't remove Trump if he refused to leave office, that is not at all what was actually said.
He specifically said that the military would not get involved in resolving an election dispute, since that is the role of the courts and Congress. He also stated that he "will not follow an unlawful order" should Trump attempt to use military action for political gain.
What I take from this is that he said (1) it is up to Congress and the courts to decide the outcome of the election and (2) the military will follow legal orders from the President. Thus if Biden is legally President on January 21st, then the military will follow his legal orders.
I don't think this scenario will occur either. But if it does, he will be removed.
