In prison - a male prison, having an appearance that is effeminate and not having the ability to defend yourself, guarantees you an opportunity to be raped.

And because some (Most) of our prisons are warehouses rather than places of rehabilitation there is always the threat of extra-judicial punishment in the form of rape.

While it should not be acceptable - there are reasons for it:
1. Rehabilitation and all it implies - is not the goal - plus providing some type of training for inmates, worthwhile skills can’t be allowed to threaten the community working personnel.

2. Providing a safe environment in prison - requires some social isolation and increasing the staff to provide that security.

3. Sad truth, prisons, some prisons - allow some inmates to exercise power over other inmates.

4. Inmates, some inmates have a history of violence - and they exercise that violence over other inmates and in some cases, staff.

In my humble opinion.

P.S. I forgot - people like the Jared - they go to clubhouse type prisons, so not the same as the ones that we normal people go to.
