(53 posts)So Im in staffing and BC is a really big deal.
The boards are not governmental, but private organizations. I dont truly believe they improve upon a physicians training, but they do weed out whack jobs and crazy fuckers - and there are a lot in medicine, way more than people realize.
They cost a lot of money and hours to maintain, and test seating is limited for testing There is a monopolistic control by ABMS, but other organizations have tried to set up alternative boards and theres a mess of lawsuits.
The boards do all kinds of stuff that seem driven by revenue, not care.
There has been no real study on if they actually improve care of physicians that get boarded. We just assume it does. But it does weed out cranks and docs that dont have their shit together. However, these people still can practice, but they are not getting the best jobs. And there are other ways to weed out crazy fuckers. Meanwhile, some boarded docs are also crazy so it doesnt weed them all out.
There is a physician shortage and BC requirements make that worse.
This dude prolly ended up working with ICE bc they didnt require boards bc they prolly could not find a boarded doc bc the pay is less than what they can make.
