43. The things those players describe

are a problem everywhere there are boosters and wealthy football programs. Sadly, that doesn't set Tuberville apart from any of the other conference coaches. It's a grimy business.

No excuse, just further illumination.

What did set him apart was his lack of a work ethic. He branded himself a CEO-type coach, which was translation for his tendency to let his assistants put in all the long hours while he ran around glad-handing and cozying up to folks. He always had a smarmy air and the alums whose interests he curried grew tired of his endless prevarication and ceaseless jockeying for more money.
