(30,884 posts)63. Part of being a manager is dealing effectively with difficult customers.
Assuming the events are as presented, the manager losing his cool IS worthy of serious disciplinary action. If I as a manager ever said something like that to a customer I'd expect a severe penalty --at a minimum I'd expect to be knocked back down a rung on the corporate ladder. It also wouldn't surprise me if I was fired.

He should be demoted, not fired. Lest he fall victim to poverty. And foodstamps. nt
