45. Several years ago

(2004) I was looking to buy two good futons for my family room. I wanted to do business with a local and not a large furniture store and found 2 locally-owned stores that carried futons. The first one was really close to my house. I walked in and while I was looking around I saw a Kerry punching bag prominently displayed. Now, I REALLY didn't like Kerry (I was a Dean supporter) but I walked up to the person behind the counter and asked him if he was the manager. He told me he was the owner. I told him that I was in the market to buy two futons, two mattresses, the pillows and the covers that day but because of his offensive punching bag I'd be taking my business elsewhere. I also told him that it was a really stupid move as he was in danger of alienating 1/2 his potential customers. You don't even have to go to business school to figure that one out. I ended up buying it from another store much farther away from my house. Iirc I spent about $1500 that day.

Of course the sad news is that the company that I bought from didn't survive the economic downturn. Mr. Punching Bag did.
