I swore he was about to say "black people" (and I still believe he was going to say it or he was intentinally doing it as plausably deniable code)...there were plenty of people (right here on DU) who didn't hear it that way, however.

As a lefty who despises Romney and everything he stands for, I WANTED to believe that Romney was so stupid that he couldn't figure out why plane windows don't open. That's when I read about here on DU. When I watched the video of Romney actually saying it, though, it just didn't come across that way to me.

I considered the "polite laughter" of the crowd angle too, but in the rythmn of what he's saying and how he's saying it, it just sounds to me like they're responding to a humorous aside Mitt says in a moment of relief that his wife's ok.

Believe me, I feel like holding my nose as I write this, but that's how it comes across to me.

I'll save my outrage for his comments about the 47%.
