2. What crime were they charged with? Sounds like it might

have been an overtly dysfunctional family, raising flags for any professionals who stumbled on them, but otoh it may have been a "normal" family and the parents completely in shock that this could have happened. It's possible, even likely, that one of the children was an instigator influencing them all to this course.

I found no suggestion that the "rapes" were more than statutory, i.e., involved force or coercion, or that the father (or mother) might have been involved. Or what rumors might have been floating around the Amish community -- or not. It'd be interesting to know something beyond that it happened, but that awaits any study that might be published some day.
