The West Wing is very small, with tiny offices. Most of the White House staff work in the Old Executive Office building (OEOB) next to the West Wing. I worked in the Executive Office of the President for one year and am very familiar with the offices. I suspect many of those in the OEOB are likewise worried. For example the VP main office is in the OEOB, not the West Wing.
I suspect the West Wing is a code word for the President's staff, which is a few hundred people.

So what, then, would be the point of Trump coming home to a shut down office?
