(26,980 posts)Here's my radio listening background and later on mini brainwashing story.
I've been a radio fan first for music, but then found later night Gene Sheppard a story spinner on ?WMCA-AM.
From there I found Barry Gray in mid '67 whom I listened to as he had people from JFK's admin who were trying to get, then supposing RFK's candidacy, and for a few months after the rest of the '68 Election. I also found WBAI-FM.
After about '69 I only listened to WBAI and FM Free form Rock+ then Alt/Indie Music Radio for decades.
But then cane Bill Clinton's presidency. Why?
Well there was very little liberal radio. I listened to Lynn Samuels (WABC-AM) and whether out of curiosity (as people began to buzz about him), or by accident - I started to listen to Limblarg. Why!?!
It was the equivalent of yelling at the TV. I'd be mentally yelling back at him. What can I say.
But then unfortunately after a few years one day he said something and I thought 'could he be right?' I stopped dead in my tracks (was walking w my Walkman) and the rest of me went 'Whaaa, NO! You know that's not true! You've never believed that. (Which was true)
Since then I've so far not been able to totally rid myself of that about 5% intermittent thinking. At least my upbringing, learning, and life experiences had/have corralled it at that level. I almost completely stopped listening to him, too. I work at getting rid of it.
Decades later neuralogical Science has found that repeatative phrases creates a nueral pathway that strengthens the more that phrase is used.
Luckily not to long after found NPR & ❤️ local programing WNYC. Also for the 2-3 years Air America ❤️Radio was on!
