Reagan as much as anyone gave the religious right legitimacy. It started with the rise of the Moral Majority. He installed sexism and anti feminism as a force to limit and even destroy the rights of women. The demonization of the women's movement and feminism has been a 32 year war whose aim has been to put women back into the kitchen permanently.
The sub meme of the GOP today is women are only good if they are only having children, washing he dishes and doing the laundry. Everything about the GOP agenda is about completing this part of the Reagan Revolution. And they are making it clear that they will never give up in this quest.
The attack on a women's right to pursue her own testing is centered the removal of womens' ability to control the size of their families. The other meme is that women pursuing careers are irresponsible and unAmerican.
What all this anti women activity means is the next generation of women will have to fight the same battle all over again that their mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers fought.
