I remember Reagan addressing high unemployment and he said if "the ladies" would give up their employment and stay home, there would be plenty of jobs (for men).

It was also during the Reagan administration that the WH pulled its support for ERA, saying it wasn't necessary, that women had all the rights they needed without amending the Constitution.
