(1,654 posts)I used to bug my mother when I was young (I'm much older now) but she used to say it wouldn't matter anyway. I couldn't believe it. She was born before women had the vote and I just couldn't wait to turn 21 and vote for what women fought so hard for. My dad always voted (D) and felt it was a citizen's right and duty. He would say if you didn't choose the leaders, someone else will will choose for you. All of us grown kids voted but we could never get my mom to do it. I don't know if she did after I moved out of state but she never mentioned it. I'm so encouraged by today's young people voting in such greater numbers and very proud for them. I think if you start young, it becomes a habit as a citizen, something adults do. In so many ways those who didn't vote at all are responsible for the rise of Donald Trump because so many people couldn't be bothered to say "Oh God, NO."
