Throughout this general election cycle, I was looking forward to voting (which, in this state, is mail-only). But, when I actually deposited my ballot, and found out it had been counted, I felt no elation -- only the dread feeling that my own vote in a deep-blue state counts for little, and that we were now at the mercy of voters from very different states than mine, in whose judgment, based on four years ago, I had zero confidence. And, beyond that consideration, not 100% confidence that the will of the voters will ever be known or allowed to prevail, thanks to an administration with no commitment to democracy, state legislatures filled with religious-right ideologues in gerrymandered positions and, of course, our newly-packed SCOTUS.
