One of the big successes of conservatives has been mainstreaming a wildly-expansive definition of socialism that used to be the provenance of ideological zealots, guys in country-club bars muttering over their gin & tonics, and assorted other ranting cranks. If they don't like it, it's "socialism."
There are times I'll call myself an "Eisenhower socialist" just to make a point about how this absurdity has been normalized. By that definition, the US was a "socialist country" during WW2 and the Cold War.
It's nuts, and the only thing that's more nuts is the fact that it doesn't get any pushback.
