that Obama believes he will be at loggerheads with Congress on budget matters in the months to come. Daley didn't appear to relish the job.

It is an awkward turn of events for a man who seems more comfortable negotiating with Republicans than excoriating them, as Mr. Obama has over the last couple of weeks, as cold-hearted defenders of the rich.

I have an initial impression that Lew will be less reticent about taking on the battle. I hope this signals a new plan of attack from the White House. We will see.
