3. I somewhat regret dropping off my mail-in ballot

several weeks ago. It feels a little anticlimactic. In pandemic time it feels like months ago. And it all seems so ineffable compared to voting in person, like your vote disappeared into the ether, despite the assurance that your ballot has been accepted, reviewed, approved, and will be tabulated tonight.

Maybe I’ll feel better when I check in at the Board of Elections and see that my ballot has been counted, finally. It’s not like sticking that paper into the scanner yourself and seeing the vote counter click up a notch.

I did the right thing, but I don’t think I’ll do it again if I have the choice.
