A few thoughts [View all]

Wet and blustery start to the day. Apropos. A splash of cold reality on what should have been a rising tide of hope. The truth is our nation is broken. That half the populace would vote for a cretin like Trump proves the country is full of true sociopaths. He is one with them. All that Trump represents is anger, fear, jealousy, hate and resentment. Where is the art? Where is the beauty? Where are the dreams of peace, hope, shared prosperity and a better future for ALL? We came to this nation, as immigrants, a few among us were already resident. The land was unsullied, pristine, fertile and serene. By our efforts we made it the bread-basket and industrial-engine of the world. There were mistakes, and costs, especially environmental and social, but there was also hope. Hope that our efforts would create an egalitarian society where hard work, skill and creativity was rewarded. FDR was elected 4 times. He gave us programs which reduced poverty, extended life, minimized suffering and improved the general well-being of all. What happened? How did we become so small? Scrabbling for crumbs and belittling the less fortunate? JFK gave us the moon. Our future was in the stars. What happened? How are we reduced to lionizing a petty tyrant who whines incessantly bout every minor slight or setback? Who are we, and what have we become?
