Imagine if you got medical test results the way we get election results: [View all]

Day 1: we just wanted to let you know we put your cells in the Petri dishes. No count yet. Could be cancer. Or not. Anyone's guess at this point.

Day 2: early days in the growth process but we took a peek at one of the Petri dishes. A few new cells, could be cancer but do consistent with not. Only 14% of the process complete. Took a poll in pathology and the lab assistants put it at 60% yeah, it's cancer.

Day 3: 28% of the process complete and we had a Petri dish with zero growth. Sounds very encouraging but one of the lab assistants think that Petri dish got too cold so may those results have to be tossed out. We've got a tram investigating the fridge. Lab assistant poll it at 40% cancer.

...

Day 8: the process is complete, but we can't release the results until we get management and legal sign-off. The Lab assistants are fighting with each other each saying the other messed up the test. So you'll have to wait. I don't know why management is taking so long to sign off on the release. Maybe tomorrow.
