It's always "illegal" with these people. It prevents me from winning, therefore "illegal".

I think it's more like "I'm too stupid to understand what the law actually is, so I'm just gonna claim it's 'illegal' and hope that some ambulance chaser can use some fancy lawyer tactics and a sympathetic judge who will let me win."
