(12,187 posts)Fancies himself a "businessman" when the closest he's ever come to an actual business was a thinly-veiled "biz-op" scam. It feel quite short of fraud, because there was an actual product, so all lawsuits were of a civil (not criminal, as opposed to polite) nature and even if he ever lost one (he was great at grinding people down until they lacked any wherewithal to continue the fight.
He was actually contemptuous of these people, because they clearly didn't have the drive and focus to make their "businesses" succeed. People, and often situations, were either The Best Thing Ever or the farthest thing from it. Rarely anything in between.
One differing aspect is that he found Christianity, but it is of the John Hagee - Creflo Dollar variety. Like most of these people, he cherry-picked Biblical passages that bolstered his perception. His overwhelming favourite was "The gold of the wicked is laid up for the righteous."
Now, here is the little anecdote that connected my mind from this thread to this miscreant. Oh, I should have mentioned that he is very smart, especially in technical ways and it's his Borderline Personality Disorder that's the big problem. He has a younger brother that is almost the exact opposite, except that he is brilliant. Quite literally the finest technical mind I've ever encountered. Taught himself UNIX system administration from a book in incredibly short time, for example.
He and I got along very well, and one of the best compliments I ever received was him saying that he wishes we could think of a business we could partner up in. One day, I told him that I thought it was entirely possible that no one that had ever had anything to do with his brother ever came out the better for having known him.
He thought for a moment and said "I think you're right."
It took me a long time to get there, but I trust you now see the connection. I find it to bee a very damning indictment of someone's life. Two lives, with one writ incredibly large.
