(1,343 posts)As one scholar said on CNN yesterday, there are unwritten rules that have always been followed. Now, because those rules are indeed unwritten, Trump and his cabal have managed to push past and do their own thing. As in McConnell advising that it's perfectly legal for Trump to (fill in the blanks) because there's nothing in the Constitution that forbids it.
This is their fallback.
A country's constitution should be a living document. Yes, it has Amendments, but getting them through (think the ERA) can take years and years, and then they die a slow deah. The Electoral College is a prime example from an non-living document since it still exists.
And...it seems to me that the whole "checks and balances" thing doesn't actually work when you have a wannabe dictator in the White House and a spineless Senate that is terrified of him.
