WASHINGTON, DC -- Yesterday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made remarks ignoring the democratic legitimacy of President-Elect Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election and threatened the peaceful transition of power by saying he was preparing for a “smooth transition to a second Trump administration.”

In reaction to Sec. Pompeo’s comments, Serra Sippel, President of CHANGE (the Center for Health and Gender Equity), an international NGO, issued the following statement warning the United States’ democratic allies to not normalize his threats to the peaceful transition of power, and refuse to meet with him until he acknowledges the President-Elect Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 race:

“Throughout his tenure as Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has consistently undermined core American values of democracy and human rights. He has dismissed our allies, cozied up to dictators and authoritarians, and actively worked to undermine global norms promoting human rights.
