12. Republicans must do it differently

In February, 2009, I asked Howard Dean why he had no interest in staying on as DNC head, and he said that when a party is out of power, the party chairman is the head of the party, but when a party holds the White House, the president is the head of the party. Howard said he would only have a diminished role as DNC chairman when Obama was president, and he was perfectly willing to let Obama do his thing. Obama never really showed Howard any gratitude for his four years of incredible work, but with Rahm Emmanuel as his chief of staff, he would never get the chance, since Rahm hated Howard's guts.

If Trump automatically remains Republican party head even after he leaves office, the Republicans have a different rule book to play by. Fine with me. If there's one to ruin that party fast, it's to let the crazies continue to run the show when they DON'T have the presidency.
