(91 posts)For affordable living just 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis to the west and 10 minutes from downtown St. Paul to the east, I recommend the tiny, postage-stamp-sized suburb of Lauderdale. It borders both cities where they meet on the north. It has the look and feel of a modest small town. It is also adjacent to the University of Minnesota agriculture campus, so there are student farm fields, golf course, etc. that give one the feel of the country, as well. Most of the homes (though not all) are modest and small, but it is very safe and has a fine school district. And they are very quick to plow the snow! It votes blue all the time. Where would you be moving from? I congratulate you for not making winter the highest priority. Living in a safe, liberal, well-educated area is the most wonderful feeling, and cold weather is a great bonding time. Good luck with your plans.
