7. Adam Schiff can't prosecute

The best he can do is investigate and make public reports.

Let’s please get off this repeat of 2008-9, when there were hundreds of daily calls here to prosecute Bush-era officials. It didn’t happen then and it won’t happen now. The most we should expect is for the SDNY to proceed with civil and criminal cases they have been preparing for Trump’s private financial misdeeds and tax evasion.

Nobody is going to prosecute him for putting kids in cages, heinous as that was, or for failing to lead (or rather, acting to mislead) on COVID. There is executive discretion, on the one hand, and lying to the people (and perhaps even child abuse, alas) are not federal crimes. Plus, it is not something that has been done before: prosecuting former presidents.

There is so much that needs to be done. Let’s not get caught in this futile revenge drama, as much as we would love for him to be punished and to set an example for the future. Unless an actual crime is unearthed ( not just horribleness), it’s highly unlikely to happen.
