(5,955 posts)...because of two things:
1. Because we (to quote our hero) "let the perfect be the enemy of the good," and
2. We haven't yet mastered the fine art of sneaking many of our agenda items in, underneath the TV Yakker's radar, with low profile appointments, and low profile changes to regulations. That's something we could learn from Republicans.
I'm what most would classify as a far-left progressive. But I'm SICK of Republicans constantly winning elections because far-left progressives think the national (rather than local) candidate is 'too establishment,' and either end up staying home on Election Day, or voting third party.
The first year of the Obama Administration was a HIDEOUS, PAINFUL sight to behold, with hardly any Democrats supporting Obama's agenda. Where two thirds of the Democratic caucus thought Obama was too centrist, and one third thought he was too far left, and whined about losing their precious Senate seats in purple states. As a result of that, they wasted a golden opportunity to get a lot of things done.
At this point, the important thing is to get some points on the board. If the FIRST IMPRESSION of Biden is that he's a centrist, moderate...GOOD! Then MORE purple states will elect Democratic Senators in 2022. If the FIRST IMPRESSION of Biden is that he's "going to cave to the left's every whim" then the opposite will happen; and by 2023 he'll be boxed in by a Republican Senate AND a Republican House. And in that position, he won't be able to implement ANY progressive policies.
