(812 posts)Sadly, the list is just the tip of the ice burg on the subject of corporate take over of farming and thus the world's dependence on food.
This does not detract from the importance of the list rather it enforces it so that the consumer may make an informed opinion before purchasing food to put on their family and grow the pie higher.
NAFTA was used as a vehicle by the Bio-Engineering firms to force over laws regarding the use of seeds and the products to support the crops.
Essentially making it illegal for Farmers to use seeds from local seed banks.
This is bad for several reasons.
GM seeds are not acclimated to many of the countries it is sold to and so have a high failure rate which is absorbed by the farmer.
In the case of Soy Beans, the Farmer must also purchase Round-Up in order to kill the Plants in preparation for harvest.
Thanks to Terminator Gene Technology, the crops are not fertile and so must be bought every year.
This Bankrupts the local Farmer and over 250,000 Indian Farmers have committed suicide by drinking Round-Up since 2004.
Wisely the Europeans have outlawed the use of Terminator Gene Technology.
Enter the Zombie Seed.
Zombie seeds have terminators built into them so that unless they receive a Hormone they will be sterile.
This despite the regulations from the EU.
