The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest (Luftslottet som Sprängdes) from Sweden
and two either/or choices:
The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen) or The Tin Drum (Die Blechtrommel), both from Germany
The Gods Must Be Crazy (original is in English) from Botswana, or "If" from England

By the way, I have seen L.A. Confidential. With that much screen time with Kim Basinger in her prime, who wouldn't?
